Campbellsville High School senior Brooklyn Harris is this year’s runner-up in the girls’ singles fifth region tennis tournament.
Harris and several other CHS tennis players won their first round matches and advanced to the quarterfinal round on Wednesday, May 11.
CHS sophomore Samuel Kessler lost his singles match in the boys’ bracket.
Doubles partners Morgan Milby, a senior, and junior Mallory Haley also lost their semifinal match, as did junior Zack Settle and sophomore Cass Kidwell.
Harris won her quarterfinal match to advance to semifinals. In that match, she lost the first set and was down 4-1 in the second. She then came back to win the second set and the third in a super tie break to advance to the final match.
Harris took on Laura Hinkle from Elizabethtown High School on Friday, May 13. She lost in two sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
Because Harris advanced to the semifinal round, she won a spot at this year’s Kentucky High School Athletic Association tennis tournament. She also competed last year.
The tournament is set for May 19-21 at University of Kentucky in Lexington.
Sonya Kessler is the CHS girls’ tennis team coach. Tyler Hardy coaches the boys’ team.
