Eagles News · Chuck Vaughn selected as CHS fifth region hall of fame inductee


Campbellsville High School Athletic Department is proud to announce that Mr. Chuck Vaughn has been selected as Campbellsville High School’s inductee in the 2017 5th Region Athletic Director’s Hall of Fame.

Chuck Vaughn is native of Campbellsville, Kentucky and a 1964 graduate of Campbellsville High School. He was a standout athlete at CHS earning multiple letters in four sports, including football, basketball, baseball and track.

Upon graduation, Chuck received a full scholarship to play football at University of Kentucky. After two and a half years, an injury ended his football playing days. He is a 1968 UK grad with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He taught math for one year at Campbellsville High School before being unexpectedly drafted to serve in the US Army during Vietnam War. After two years of military service taught high school in Michigan for five years and also worked part-time as a church youth minister.

Chuck completed a Master’s Degree in Counseling at Western Michigan University in 1975. He spent the next 15 years in Oregon as a high school teacher, counselor, assistant principal, and the last 5 years as a high school principal. While in Oregon completed a certification program in public school administration at Portland State University.

In 1990, he returned to Kentucky to become principal at Campbellsville High School.

While principal he completed his Kentucky school superintendent certification at Western Kentucky University and in 1997 was named superintendent of Campbellsville Independent Schools. Chuck was always an ardent supporter of the athletic programs. Under his leadership a number of the athletic facilities were upgraded or completed.

After 34 years in public school education he retired in 2005 and accepted a position at Campbellsville University as the Big Maroon Club director. He had primary responsibility for raising funds to support the athletic department. Today, he continues to work raising scholarship money for CU students with financial need.

He and his wife, Karen, also a Campbellsville High School graduate, are blessed with three grown children, Bryan and wife, Myra; Beth and husband, Graham; and Ben. They have one grandson, Will.

Campbellsville High School will recognize Mr. Vaughn at halftime of the boys’ varsity basketball game with Metcalfe Co this Saturday, February 4th. The game will start at approximately 6 p.m.

A reception will be held in Mrs. Angie Travis’s room, across from the cafeteria, after the boys’ varsity game.
