Boys Varsity Golf · CHS golf player to attend NKU

Campbellsville High School senior golf player Alex Doss will continue his academic and playing career at Northern Kentucky University.

Doss recently celebrated the announcement with his family and friends at a special reception.

CHS Athletic Director Tim Davis said Doss, who has received a scholarship to the Division 1 school, has been an outstanding golf player for his school.

“Not only one of the top players for our team and the region, but also the state,” Davis said.

He said Doss has been very successful playing with the CHS team as well as in tournaments as an individual player.

“Congratulations and job well done,” Davis said. “Not only a good golfer, but a good student and a good person, which is probably more important than golf.”

Doss said he wants to thank his family for supporting him throughout his golf career.

“They made it to where if I wanted to pursue this, they would provide the resources for me,” he said.

“Golf was something I always enjoyed and had fun doing.”

Doss said he also wants to thank his friends, who played golf with him just about every day.

“They make it fun. They go out there and play all the time,” he said. “They make me want to get better.”

Doss is the son of Steve and Dee Doss.

Doss’s sister, Kathryn, currently attends NKU and is a nursing major. She also plays golf and is set to graduate in December 2020.

NKU golf coach Daryl Landrum has ties to Campbellsville. He played golf at Campbellsville College for three years and worked at Campbellsville Country Club.

Doss said NKU is located in a good area, close to Cincinnati, Ohio.

He said he believes the school is a good fit for him, being far enough from home but also close enough that he can come back to Campbellsville often.

Doss said he believes attending NKU will help him grow as a person and player. He said he will enjoy traveling with the NKU golf team and hopes to be able to play often.

Doss said he hasn’t decided what he will study at NKU, but there are many majors available for him to choose.

He said he will also enjoy being on campus with his sister.

“It’s neat though, my sister being here,” he said.

Doss has played on the CHS golf team since his fourth-grade year, and has also swam with the CHS swimming team since sixth grade.

This season, for the third year in a row, the CHS boys’ golf team won the All “A” fifth region championship, and advanced to the All “A” state tournament.

CHS finished in second place, which is the highest showing at the All “A” state tournament in the team’s history. Doss finished the individual tournament in third place.

The team was also runner-up in this year’s Heartland Conference tournament.

Cassidy Decker is the CHS boys’ golf coach.
